How a CAVA order adds up

A CAVA order is assembled in layers: a base, a main, then dips, toppings and a dressing. The base and the main usually make up most of the total, which is why switching the base is the single biggest change you can make. In CAVA's own figures, the gap between the lightest and heaviest bowl base is bigger than the gap between the lightest and heaviest main.

Dips and dressings are where totals quietly climb. Each one looks small on its own, but a couple of rich spreads plus garlic dressing can add more than a second portion of chicken. If you are counting calories, pick the dip or dressing you care about most and keep the rest light.

Toppings are mostly vegetables and cost very little, with avocado and pita crisps the main exceptions. Those are worth adding deliberately rather than by default.

Getting more protein at CAVA

Protein at CAVA comes mostly from the main. Grilled chicken is the highest-protein main in CAVA's guide, and black lentils are the only base that adds meaningful protein. Splitting your base between lentils and greens, then doubling the chicken, is the simplest way to push protein up. Watch the protein box in the totals as you build.

Bowl or pita?

A pita replaces the bowl base with bread. In CAVA's guide the pita has more calories than any single bowl base, rice included, so a pita with the same fillings will come out higher than the bowl version. Build both in the calculator with the order switch and compare.

Tips for a lighter CAVA order

Start from a greens base, or split greens with a grain, instead of a full portion of rice. Choose one creamy element, either a rich dip or a rich dressing, not both. Load up on the low-calorie vegetable toppings for volume. If you want a bigger meal, put the extra calories into a second portion of your main rather than into sides like pita chips.
